As part of their new strategic plan to expand the lineup and increase the volume, Maserati will launch three new models in three different market segments. That’s kinda of a big deal for a small car maker like Maserati. The cars in question will include the new Kubang SUV, a mid-size sedan and the new Quattroporte. They are ought to increase Maserati’s production up to 50,000 vehicles a year by 2015.
The company’s future organizational and industrial structure plans deems the current facilities in the city of Modena inadequate to implement those targets. The plant is confined by the city limits and cannot be expanded for the added production.
To get round this problem they have invested over 500 million Euro in upgrading the Fiat-owned Officine Automobilistiche Grugliasco plant (ex Bertone). This facility will later on be used to boost Alfa Romeo’s production as well. Design, marketing and distribution activities for the entire product range, as well as production of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio will remain at the Modena headquarters.
