Celebrating its Polo WRC rally car, Volkswagen announced a road-going version of it (sort of ) for 2013 launch. The car, Polo R WRC Street, will be unveiled at the 2012 Worthersee event in Austria as a concept. On the face of it, the Street concept looks like a normal Polo R with some stickers on it. But it’s actually a bit more than that.

Engine-wise, it is the same as the Polo R, featuring a 2.0 liter TSI unit with 162 kW / 220 PS (can you believe this little hatchback has more power than Toyota GT86 sportscar?). But the R WRC concept gets new wheels and unique rear spoiler, diffuser,  and sports suspension. These stuff make a world of difference in the car’s feel and performance.

And there’s the motorsport decals and graphics, of course, plus the Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and two-tone seats. It sounds like a cool prospect, if they price it right.

The car will make it into production next year in very limited numbers.
