The E30 M3 and the 190E story never gets old. These are the genesis, the very beginning of an era that gave us the German sports saloons as we know them today. It was Mercedes who started it by making the 190 in collaboration with Cosworth. The car was first designed to go rallying, but then the Audi Quattro came along, and they sent it track racing instead. That was  BMW’s territory. So they responded with the M3, and beat Mercedes in their own game.

This episode of MT’s Head2Head puts thee two kings up against each other. It must be the millionth time the M3 and 190E is being compared, but we don’t care. It is still very very interesting.

The 190E, as Jason Cammisa – who just bought the Benz – says, is the cooler of the two because of its history and the fact that Ayrton Senna raced in it. But we can’t help but adore the looks of the E30. It just looks right somehow. If we were to buy one of these cars, it’d be the M3.
