Tesla Motors showed up at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show with their current production car, the Model S, and an updated version of the Model X crossover. The Model X received a particularly warm welcome from the audience.
The X shares its underpinnings with the highly successful Tesla Model S, and has a similar design to it too. Well, this new prototype is finished in white and has different alloys, but apart from those, they both have similar grilles, head and taillights. What sets the X apart, besides its higher ground clearance, is the gullwing rear doors, designed for ease of access for the rear passengers.
Tesla Model X is powered by the same electric drivetrain as the S, with an electric motor that is fed by thousands of laptop batteries located underneath the flat floor. It will come in different capacities, which differ in performance and driving range.
