Not even a year passes since Nissan teamed up with the Deltawing experimental racing project, but the relationship is already over. Nissan has reportedly stopped supporting the project, which means Delta has to go find a new engine.

Nissan and Deltawing had a good run, even though the car crashed in two of the biggest events it ever took part in. The Japanese firm provided the project with a racing version of their 1.6 liter engine and also helped with publicity and logistics.

Now they decided it was probably not worth the hassle. After all, Deltawing doesn’t qualify in any of the racing categories. Still, Nissan hopes they can remain friends, as their Motorsport chief Darren Cox twitted nice comments about Deltawing and wished them good luck.

Deltawing is not giving up. They are working on a new engine, a 1.9 liter Mazda powertrain, and once that’s taken care of they will plan a comeback. The car may change though, as they are talking about a new closed cockpit design.
