To stir things up a bit and introduce a new look for their racing cars Aston Martin and their partner Gulf decided to change the iconic livery and sort of modernize it. To do so they launched a design competition, and what you see here is the winning entry.
The design is not really recognizable as Gulf livery, mainly because it doesn’t have much in common with the classic one. It is a good look though, applied to the #97 Vantage GTE endurance racer.
The new livery is designed by Jonathan Wesley from Kettering in the UK and it is inspired by the change in atmosphere as day gives way to night during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was selected from the hundreds of entries received. Johnathon’s prize is a chance to attend the race weekend as a VIP guest of Gulf to see his winning design compete in the 90th 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The #97 car is one of five Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTEs competing in the 24-hour race, but the only one to carry the competition-winning design. The car will first be seen on the Circuit de la Sarthe at the first free practice session.
