The Volkswagen Golf GTI never had to play the big power card. The car is as competent and as satisfying with 200 PS as cars with 300 or 350 PS. Still, who doesn’t like more power? With that in mind, the guys at HG Motorsport decided to give the new GTI a big old boost.
They began with GTI mk7 Performance version that comes with standard 230 PS and 350 Nm, and a six-speed DSG transmission. Then, by fiddling with the car’s electronics, adjusting its air intake system to their likings, and fitting a new sport exhaust system, they managed to take that output to 303 PS and over 400 Nm of torque.
That is going to make a rather significant difference in the way the car feels and responses. Again, the GTI doesn’t really need that much power to put a smile on your face, but now the size of that small is going to be bigger.
Other modifications include a set of large aftermarket wheels, and some KW suspension components to make sure it stays in check with the same dignity as before in spite of the additional 70 horses it’s got.
