Rock and cars go together like beer and cigarettes – these explosive and charismatic characters usually reflect their egos and personalities with their cars. Whether they are aging legends from the 80s or stars from the present, the theme regarding rides is still pretty much the same – fast, expensive and loud. Here are a few rock gods and the chariots they choose to ride in.
Ozzy Osbourne
I thought I’d start big, and there’s no one much bigger than the Prince Of Darkness. Ozzy Osbourne has seen fame in Black Sabbath, his self-titled band and of course MTV’s The Osbournes. I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable sharing a car with Ozzy behind the wheel, especially if it was this matte black Ferrari 458 Italia – full race harness and helmet please… Sharon!
Slash
That top hat perched precariously atop that mass of black curly hair is known universally as one of the most famous rock guitarists in the world. Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver axe-man, Slash owns a very nice classic Corvette. Despite driving a fairly fast car, he didn’t seem to have the skills when he appeared on BBC’s Top Gear in the “reasonably Priced Car”.
Marilyn Manson
King of Goth, Marilyn Manson certainly knows what car suits him. This 1969 custom Lincoln Continental was used in his music video for his cover of Soft Cell’s Tainted Love. It received a custom air suspension, a custom grille and “Goth Thing” plates. Continentals from this era (1965-1969) are notable for their suicide doors, making it a real collectors car. This 69? Lincoln Continental has a 7.5-L V8 and about 365-bhp.
Dave Grohl
This guy has been a rock legend in two bands, a drummer for grunge gods, Nirvana and guitarist/singer for the still active Foo Fighters. Taking a more laid back approach to getting from A to B, Grohl owns a very un-rock Smart car and a slightly cooler classic Ford camper van.
Brian Johnson
AC-DC front man, Brian Johnson thinks big when it comes to cars. Known to drive a vintage Bentley to pop to the shops, he also owns a Rolls Royce Phantom and this rather special British 1960’s Lola T70 Spyder. The T70 competed at Le Mans and scored a 1-2 victory at the 1969 24 Hours of Daytona.
Steven Tyler
Rubber lipped and rubber hipped Aerosmith singer, Steven Tyler own a car as wild as his stage performances. Although he’s wearing a sorry combination of socks and sandals in this picture, the car he drives (hopefully without sandals) is far from sorry. This is the Bugatti Veyron’s nemesis, the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder. Based on the ultra light Lotus Exige, it produces an insane 1244-bhp from a 7.0-L Hennessey-built twin-turbo V8. It has enough torque to burst the blood vessels in your eyes, and before you know it you’re doing 200-mph in less than 16 seconds. Only five will be built in 2013, and Tyler nabbed the first Spyder. Is this rock n roll enough for you?
Anthony Kiedis
When researching for this list, I had a feeling Red Hot Chilli Peppers front man, Anthony Kiedis would belong to the “green celeb” gang… and I was right. Thankfully, this guy has some taste and avoided the Toyota Prius and went for a Tesla Model S instead. Although this isn’t the Roadster, this electric car at least looks sporty and a little rock n roll.
James Hetfield
Metallica front man, James Hetfield has been rocking for over three decades and is in the top 50 wealthiest rock stars of all time list. He loves cars and owns some pretty cool old school vehicles. This custom 1936 Ford 5-window Coupe was chopped, dropped and finished with a flat metal look… easily the coolest ride on this list.
