After a very poor performance by the new generation Kia Cerato/Forte in official crash tests, the Korean car maker is under the spotlight for the safety of their vehicles. Now they get a little breather, as the new Carens compact MPV passes the EuroNCAP tests with flying colors.
The 2014 Kia Carens achieved the maximum five-star rating; recording high scores for Adult Occupant Protection (94 per cent), Child Occupant Protection ( cent), Safety Assist equipment (81 per cent) and Pedestrian protection (64 per cent).
This car is one of only two compact MPV models to earn five-stars in the 2013 Euro NCAP tests. It owes this success to a whole host of active and passive safety features; including six airbags (front, front side and curtain), seatbelt reminders for all occupants, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), HAC (Hill-start Assist Control) to prevent roll-back and ESS (Emergency Stop Signalling) which flashes the brake lights to alert other motorists when the driver is making an emergency stop. The Carens also features a ‘belt-up’ reminder for all seats, and a driver-set adjustable speed limiter, which are quite handy.
2014 Kia Carens starts from £17,895 in the UK.
