Following yesterday’s official unveiling of the new 2014 MINI, here we have a rendering of the car’s convertible version, for those who cannot wait for MINI to come up with the real thing. The nice and buffed body of the new MINI should be a good base for a cabrio model.
The reason it doesn’t look so brilliant here is, we suspect, the guys at Xtomi Design mixed the old drop-top MINI with the features of the new one to come up with this. So it sort of looks out of balance. We reckon the real 2014 MINI Cabrio will look a lot better.
In any case, the MINI Cabrio is going to have that same sort of folding roof arrangement, which is not really very cool to be honest. It is not so bad when it’s folded – if anything, it looks kind of cool and classic – but when it’s up, it’s not a pretty sight.
What’s more, the MINI Cabrio always suffered from an image problem. It’s not really a manly car, this! It’ll be damn good fun though, especially in S guise with the 190 horsepower 2.0 liter engine.
And as an added bonus, here’s some live shots of the 2014 MINI at the Oxford Plant:
