This year Italdesign didn’t really make a lot of fuss about their Geneva Motor Show concept and we can see why. It is called the Clipper, and it is, in essence, a Volkswagen MPV in a fancy dress with gullwing doors. So it’s not something fundamentally exciting.
Italdesign Giugiaro Clipper is built upon VW’s flexible MQB platform. It is as if they took a VW van and fitted it with the front doors from a Mercedes SLR, and rear doors from a Mercedes SLS. Why would you want that on a car like this, we have no idea.
Still, the Clipper is a showcase of technology inside the cabin. And by technology we of course men lots of displays. It has a floating digital instrument panel with two screens, and an 11-inch touchscreen on the center console. There are also four iPad Minis built into the headrests of the Alcantara-wrapped seats.
Just about the only sensible feature of the Italdesign Giugiaro Clipper is its powertrain, which consists of two 150 PS electric motors. Working together they turn the Clipper into a four-wheel-drive 300 PS car with a driving range of 540 km and a top speed of 240 km/h.
