Usually it is Geneva Motor Show where the eccentric Swiss car maker Rinspeed reveals the fruit of their latest musings. But this time with the Rinspeed Oasis they just couldn’t wait till March to show it off and decided to unveil the car at the CES show in Las Vegas in January 2017.
They call this concept Rinspeed Oasis because they say the state of the automotive world is like a barren desert right now technology-wise, and this concept the only green pasture where life-sustaining water can be found. That’s a little presumptuous, especially as the car is a two-seat urban runabout, but the Oasis does have some interesting features.
Modeled, apparently, on the shape of R2D2 from Star Wars, the electric, self-driving Rinspeed Oasis is a futuristic city car with wheels capable of turning on their own axis with almost a zero radius, a windshield that doubles as a screen for virtual and augmented reality, interior space featuring an armchair, sideboard, TV, and a multifunctional steering wheel, even a small green space for growing flowers or radishes below the windscreen.
We have to say, Rinspeed have really out-weird themselves with this thing. They even go so far as mocking Google’s similar self-driving car a “gray mouse.” More technical details on the Oasis will be revealed at CES.
