Volkswagen tuners are not very happy with the company these days, for at the Beijing Auto Show but a week ago they unveiled the ultimate factory-tuned Golf in form of the R 400 Concept, which rendered all their efforts pointless. Now one of them, MTM, is speaking up with this, a 360 horsepower version of the standard Golf R.
MTM Golf R may not have the power and joie de vivre of the R 400, but it is not a fantasy, either. You can get one of these right now and enjoy a serious turn of speed courtesy of a heavily modified 2.0 liter four-cylinder TSI engine.
Thanks to a M-Cantronic module, MTM Golf R VII makes 360 horsepower and over 450 Nm of torque. That is 60 hp and 70 Nm more than the standard, and drops the car’s 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time to 4.2 seconds. Unfortunately, they keep the top speed limiter in place, so you can’t go past 250.
To cope with the extra power MTM has fitted their Golf R with expensive but very powerful braking system including 8-piston calipers, and a set of 19-inch wheels wrapped in 235/35 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
There are no visual or interior upgrades to speak of, apart from some graphics. But even so, MTM Golf R will set you back near as makes no difference 55K Euro.
