Volvo, the Chinese-owned Swedish company, announced the launch of a new long wheelbase plug-in hybrid version of the S60 at the Beijing Auto Show. This car gets an application of Volvo’s Drive-E engine, combining petrol turbo and plug-in hybrid technology for the best compromise possible between performance and economy.
What you get out of this system is 238+68 hp and 350+200 Nm of torque. That enables the Volvo S60L Plug-in Hybrid to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, while returning a mind-boggling average fuel consumption of just 2.0l/100 km and CO2 rating of 50 g/km. How is that even possible?
Well, apart from the hybrid module, Volvo S60L Plug-in Hybrid benefits from a crankshaft-driven ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) between the engine and the 8-speed automatic gearbox. And they have included the distance you can cover in pure electric mode. So that’s how.
As impressive as the S60L PPHEV (Petrol Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) is in terms of fuel economy, what’s really amazing is the fact that it is still a perfectly satisfying family car with a big boot and a spacious cabin and awesome build quality. It is even versatile, thanks to electric four-wheel drive, itself a derivative of the hybrid system.
The concept Volvo S60L Plug-in Hybrid is finished in a matt white crystal pearl, while the interior features hazel-brown leather with contrasting stitching and lots of chrome detailing.
