Yesterday at the Vienna Motor Symposium Audi unveiled a new generation of Clean Diesel TDI engine. This 3.0 liter unit is a Euro 6 compatible engine with two 160 kW (218 hp) and 200 kW (272 hp) power outputs. It is also up to 13 percent more efficient than the previous TDI units.
Audi’s new 3.0L V6 Diesel powertrain benefits from a range of high-end features that make it more powerful and yet more economical than its predecessors. It features piston rings optimized for minimal friction, e newly designed cylinder heads and crankcase with separate coolant loops, updated thermal management system, new turbochargers and oil pumps.
The engine also has an industry-first NOx storage catalytic converter combined with a diesel particulate filter and SCR injection in a single assembly.
“The new 3.0 TDI substantiates our claim as the leader in diesel technology,” said Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, Technical Development. “We have led the competition ever since the first TDI engine 25 years ago, and are constantly extending this lead with new ideas.”
