This is an all-American problem. Over there if you want to buy a proper luxury sedan you automatically go for the latest German offering in the segment, and currently that is the new Mercedes S550. Or rather you would do that, if it wasn’t for Elon Musk and his wonderful creation, Tesla Model S. This car is rivaling not just luxury players, but also the most serious sports cars.

To help people make an educated decision, Motor Trend’s Jonny Lieberman took both cars out for a thorough test to find which is best:

Make no mistake, the S-Class is still the king of the luxury class. The new 2014 version is an especially fine example of high-end motoring. But the Tesla with its ‘Made in America’ badge, that cool iPad thingy instead of normal controls, and of course, its electric motor, is making a strong case for itself.
