Each year at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este BMW reveals a retro-inspired futuristic concept car. This year their car is based on a MINI, and created by the famous Italian coachbuilder Touring Superleggera. It’s called MINI Superleggera Vision Concept.

The design of MINI Superleggera mixes modern Britishness with Italian flair, according to BMW, exploring new ideas in dynamic minimalism in form of a compact two-seater roadster. The body of the car is crafted the old-fashioned way by hand, equipped with modern features like carbon fiber splitter and sills, and finished in a bespoke Como blue.

The cabin is a minimalist take on the standard MINI interior design, boasting utter simplicity and elegance thanks to high-end materials such as leather, aluminium and black chrome. Notable features include a classic three-spoke steering wheel, a touch-sensitive control element and two circular instruments with metal surrounds, plus an analog clock.

BMW does not like to discuss technicalities at this stage, and stops at revealing MINI Superleggera has an electric drivetrain.

Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design on the concept: “Touring Superleggera and MINI have much in common: both companies attach great importance to their history and this is something which defines their outward appearance to this day. What is more, they both emphasise iconic design and distinctive solutions. These elements are merged in the MINI SuperleggeraTM Vision to create an elegant automobile which interprets a British roadster under the influence of Italian style and hand craftsmanship.”
