Audi TT Cup Looks Sublime on the Race Track

The racing version of the new Audi TT, announced a few months ago for a one-make racing series, is now ready for action and in fact has just finished its first track shakedown. A group of Audi TT Cup racers covered nearly 7,700 kilometers at the Circuit de Catalunya in the hands of 18 international drivers.

Audi TT Cup race car is based on the road-going TTS model, stripped down to 1,125 kilograms and fitted with all sorts of racing paraphernalia. It comes with a 2.0 liter TFSI engine with 310 horsepower and a massive aero kit, as well as racing suspension, wheels and tires, and electronics.

The technical prowess of the Audi TT Cup aside, we are blown away by the way this car looks in racing garb, in action on the race track. The TT started out as a car exclusively designed for hairdressers, but it has now grown into a handsome and seriously sporty machine for the manliest of men! Hopefully the styling of the Cup car will inspire tuners in designing similar body kit for the road version.

Detlef Schmidt, Technical Project Leader of the Audi Sport TT Cup, made a positive assessment as well: “I’m very pleased with the reliability of the car and the performance of the drivers. All race cars are completely undamaged, and after nearly 7,700 kilometers at that.” The technical development is now going to analyze the data and subsequently optimize personalized settings such as the seating positions and steering wheel adjustments for the 18 entrants.
