Drift master, Rallycross champ, and TV presenter Tanner Foust is getting deeper and deeper in his love affair with Volkswagen. After accepting a GRC Beetle rally car for his Rallycross efforts, Tanner now gets a VW Passat drift car with which he will compete in Formula Drift.

Foust, whom you may remember as James May’s rally coach in the very last Top Gear episode aired, is considered one of the world’s finest drifters, which is why Volkswagen did went all out for him and created a machine worthy of the man’s skills. The VW Passat drift car built for tanner boasts 900 nitrous-boosted horsepower from a V-8 engine.

All of that power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed dog-engagement transmission and a Tilton clutch, where specifically-designed RS-R suspension and an extroverted APR Performance swan-mount wing will utilize it to send the car into a harmonious slide. The car also gets KMC wheels wrapped in Nitto Tires.

“One of the things I have always loved about drifting in the United States is how inventive you can get with the car builds. You can put a high-horsepower V-8 into a Volkswagen Passat to make something completely unique,” said Tanner Foust. “You don’t see that in another series in the world.”
