The boys from Mcchip-DKR have really outdone themselves this time, boosting the power output of a Mercedes SL63 AMG to a colossal 712 horsepower and 1080 Nm of torque. That is a hundred more than what you get from the V12-powered SL65 AMG!

Before we tell you what Mcchip has done to the V8 engine in the Mercedes SL63 AMG to make it produce that kind of horsepower let us talk for a bit about the engine itself. Codenamed M157, this twin-turbo V8 motor has a displacement of 5.5 liters and is one of the few turbocharged V8s that still sounds great without needing acoustic help and it makes 557 PS and 800Nm in standard form. By Mercedes’ standard this engine is now obsolete, having been replaced by a new 4.0 liter bi-turbo unit. But as you can see it still has a lot of life left in it.

Mcchip’s Mercedes SL63 AMG benefits from a stage 3 upgrade kit which includes a remapped ECU with new codes for the fuel injection, throttle control, valve control and ignition systems, and a complete and fully custom Capristo exhaust system. So in addition to more power, the upgraded engine also makes a much more fascinating noise. The cool thing about chip tuning and sport exhaust is that these mods don’t have that big of an effect on the engine’s fuel consumption. It’s pretty much a win-win situation.
