Now that they have done the first phase of track testing of the GT-R LM Nismo Le Mans car, Nissan feels confident to share the car’s technical specifications with the public. And it is a bit of a shocker to be honest, because it seems Nissan is bringing a knife to a gun fight.

Almost all the serious contenders in the LMP1 class are now powered by highly complex, highly powerful hybrid systems that last longer with less need for pit stops and make a bucketload of power as well. Nissan GT-R LM Nismo though, well it has a 3.0 liter V6 engine in the front, and it is front-wheel-drive as well. It is kind of like they’ve based this car on the Maxima or something!

That V6 engine is twin-turbocharged, mind you, and although they don’t say how much power it makes, it is probably closely related to the twin-turbo V6 of the standard GT-R, so it’s a lot. We understand Nissan not wanting to use a hybrid system, but can’t quite wrap our heads around the front-wheel-drive bit. Maybe they knew they don’t a stand chance of winning, so they decided to be different and quirky to get some attention. Of course, we’re just guessing here.

Weighing 870 kg, Nissan GT-R LM Nismo boasts a 5-speed + reverse sequential gearbox with pneumatic paddle shift system and a 3-plate clutch, 68-liter capacity FT3 fuel tank, carbon fiber body work with adjustable aero Ohlins multi-adjustable front dampers and Penske multi-adjustable rear damper, and BBS wheels that are bigger at the front than they are at the back. It’s all quite remarkable this thing.
