Wörthersee Preview: Golf GTI Performance

As per usual, the annual GTI meeting – better known as Wörthersee which is the name of venue where the event is held each year – will see the debut of a great many Golf GTI Concepts. VW has already teased us with a rather interesting one, so here’s a not-so-interesting concept to balance things out.

This Golf GTI Performance One-Off concept is the work of a team of 13 Volkswagen apprentices based on a three-door production GTI. VW says it reflects “the taste of young people.” Well, only if those young people are all high. The designers were adamant about a two-tone scheme and used it not just on the body, but also on the wheel/brake caliper combination.

This Golf GTI Performance is the result of a real team effort. The team in question was divided into smaller group, each specializing in one area: vehicle interior fitters (4), vehicle paint technicians (2), automotive mechatronics technicians (4), media designers (1) and process technicians specializing in plastics and rubber engineering (2).

The result of these young people’s effort will be revealed at the big event in Austria where VW will also announce the technical details of the vehicle. As with most other Wörthersee concept, after the show the car will be stored in a warehouse somewhere or taken apart so its components could be used for something more useful.
