Polestar, the in-house tuner for Volvo road cars and the builder of their racing machines, has a new range of “powertrain optimization” kits for the new Volvo XC60. These cover the T8, T6, T5, D5 and D4 version of the SUV, with the most potent one, the Volvo XC60 Polestar T8, packing 421 horsepower.

Now that’s a pretty decent amount of power for a mid-size SUV like the XC60, which is built more for safety, comfort and convenience than speed and performance. But perhaps more impressive than that is the fact that Volvo XC60 Polestar optimizations retain the Volvo warranty, class-leading emission levels, consumption of 2.1 l/100 km and a pure electric range of 45 kilometres for the T8. So you get the enhanced performance, sharpness and agility, as well as faster and crisper gear shifts, at no cost to the fuel efficiency of the car. That’s what they call a win-win situation.

”Our goal is to create usable performance in everyday driving situations for Volvo owners who want an enhanced driving experience,” said Henrik Fries, Vice President, Research and Development at Polestar. “The new XC60 has provided us with an excellent base to work on with a dynamic chassis and a state of the art powertrain. With the Polestar optimisation, it makes the new Volvo XC60 a true drivers’ car.”
