With the new Mercedes E-Class on the market BMW boosted developing the next generation of 5 series in order to keep up with the good Merc. The new 5series will start in 2010 and as you see in these pictures is clearly inspired by the 7series, which is good. Not that 7 is a good looking car but at least those ridiculous head and tail lights of the 5 would be gone for good! New car will be bigger than current model, about 2centimeters in length while wheelbase grows as much as 8cm which translates into much more space inside.

As for the power, a range of optimized engines  with new cylinder heads which has better fuel efficiency will be available for this car, 540i will get a six-cylinder with 326 HP,while the V8 in 550i checks out 407HP. Again getting close to 7-series, a whole lot of new standard and optional features and  luxury stuffs will be available, Also it might spawn a hybrid variant in future along with the 7-series.
