From this November Audi will offer the A3 hatchbacks in two new diesel and petrol variants equipped with S-tronic automatic gearbox and start-stop system for maximum efficiency. Now in case you’re wondering what’s the start-stop system, here’s a quick refresher by Audi: It turns the engine off as soon as the vehicle comes to a stop; the engine stays off as long as the driver depresses the brake pedal. As soon as the driver removes their foot from the brake pedal, start-stop turns the engine back on – quietly, conveniently and quickly.

The cars equipped with this new package include the A3 1.6 TDI with 105 hp and A3 1.4 TFSI with 125 hp.

The 1.6 TDI engine can take the car from zero to 100 km/h in 11.7 seconds with a top speed of 194 km/h. YES it is very slow! but in return you get extremely good fuel economy as it only uses  4.2 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers (equivalent of 56 MPG).

The petrol powered 1.4 TFSI is quicker to get to 100 km/h at 9.3 seconds and has a top speed of 203 km/h. As for the fuel consumption it averages 5.3 liters per 100 KM (44 MPG).

Base prices for the A3 1.4 TFSI starts at €23,700 (3-door) and €24,600 (Sportback), while the 1.6 TDI runs for €25,500 for the 3-door and €26,400 for the Sportback.
