BMW will preview the new generation of 6-Series Coupe at the upcoming Paris Motor Show with this, the BMW 6 Series Coupe Concept. It is obviously based on the BMW Gran Coupe concept, but while that four-door coupe seems alright from every angle, this coupe version does not! The front-end, at least in these pictures, looks a bit dumb. It seems BMW has put the old 6er and the Gran Coupe in a blender, and this is the result.
Of course it has all the characteristics of an elegant coupe including stretched bonnet, the short front overhang, a passenger compartment set well to the rear, and a low silhouette incorporating a dynamically flowing roofline. And indeed it has corrected some of the old car’s design flaws like the stupid trunk lid, but unfortunately it has developed new problems!
The interior is still typical BMW, which some people say is rather boring. Well, maybe, but it is perfect in terms of ergonomics and quality. If you ever set foot in any new BMW, you immediately realize everything is where you expect it to be. This car features a huge 10.2-inch iDrive Control Display in the centre of the instrument panel.
The concept model is also equipped with the Head-Up Display system that offers world-beating functionality and display quality. For maximum listening quality, the hi-fi system was designed specially for the BMW 6-Series Coupé Concept using high-quality components from Danish audio systems specialists Bang & Olufsen.
Even though it’s called a concept, the production 6-series will be more or less the same. And if we’re honest we have to say we were expecting it to be much better than this designwise. Anyhow, let’s wait for the M6, that might look a bit better!
