smart has come up with a new vision for a future model that eases up on being a cute fashion thingy, a bit, and adds more drama and thrill to the recipe of the small city car. That comes in the form of the smart forspeed, to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.

Despite the looks of the car (it is actually called forspeED) which make you think it’s got a V8 engine wedged under the hood, the forspeed is actually powered by smart’s electric drivetrain, very similar to the system that powers their Escooter!

The electric motor in this car is mounted on the rear axle and delivers 40 horsepower. It also gets a 7 horsepower overboost function. Not sure what 7 hp can do for you, but here we are! smart says it has a range of 84 km and a top speed of 75 mph.

smart forspeed seems to be a cool toy for going up and down the streets in a fun way, but it won’t be produced. Even if they wanted to, the forspeed is not likely to pass mandatory safety test with that open-top speedster form and fancy windscreen! It also has a cartoonish interior.
