Beetle R Greenlit For Production

Volkswagen Beetle R 4 at Beetle R Greenlit For Production

The hotted-up VW Beetle R concept, revealed in Frankfurt earlier this year, will go into production after putting up a good show in Los Angeles.

Seeing as USA is the primary market for the new gen Beetle, VW officials are looking at the L.A. Autoshow audience for feedback. They say that’s the decider if the car make it into production or not.

Americans embraced the normal Beetle very well, so why wouldn’t they like a sporty version of the car with swollen arches, bigger air intakes and a wing at the back, especially as it has four tailpipes! The car’s interior is garnished with sports seats and aluminum accents.

So the car is almost certainly slated for production. That said, Autocar reports the final production version will look a bit more tamed than the R concept. It will still get the 260 hp 2.0 liter turbo engine out of Golf/Scirocco R.
