Volvo’s motorsport arm Polestar announced launch of the new S60 touring race car for the Swedish Racing Elite League championship.

The racing version of the sensible family saloon features a race-tuned hybrid V6 engine developing 420hp. The power is channeled to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Other racing bits and pieces on the car include a double wishbone suspension with three way dumpers,18 inch wheels with tires size 260/660-18 at the front and 80/660-18 at the back, and a carbon fiber aerodynamic package, as well as a racing braking system.

Volvo Polestar Racing and Volvo Polestar Performance teams each will be fielding two S60 TTA race cars in the new season. In spite of its safe and boring image, Volvo does have a long motorsport history. It just doesn’t show in their road cars!
