Looks like the Infiniti M35h is no longer the only sporty hybrid sedan out there. BMW has come up with a hybrid version of the 3-Series with 250 kW/340 hp. The car has a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time of 5.3 seconds, and can easily reach 250 km/h (155 mph). It does that while being more fuel efficient than a small diesel, and offering an electric driving mode.

An innovative feature of this car is the ECO PRO mode, which can be activated via the Driving Experience Control switch, supports a particularly fuel-efficient driving style in the BMW 3 ActiveHybrid. In ECO PRO mode, the coasting function is available at any speed up to 160 km/h (100 mph), while in Comfort mode it operates between 60 and 80 km/h (37 and 50 mph) when the brakes are applied lightly.

Sport, Sport+ and Comfort are driving modes offered in this car.

Despite all the fuel-saving measures, it is still a 3er BMW which is by far and away the best sports sedan. Adaptive Suspension is optionally available, while the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), which incorporates functions such as Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Brake Assist, Fading Compensation, a Brake Drying function and Start-Off Assistant.

The BMW ActiveHybrid 3 will have a base price of nearly $50,000 in America, which is a lot but then it’s a multi-talented car. And it looks like an ordinary 3 Series which is very cool.
