SRT Viper GTS-R Ready For ALMS Return

2013 SRT Viper GTS R at SRT Viper GTS R Ready For ALMS Return

Testing and tuning session is over, and the new 2013 ST Viper GTS-R is fully ready for its comeback to the American Le Mans Series in August. The venue for the Viper’s return is the amazing circuit of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, where two identical GTS-Rs will be competing in the production-based GT class for three hours.

The new Viper is facing tough competition in form of Aston Martin Vantage, BMW M3 GT, Corvette C6.R, Ferrari F458 Italia, Lotus Evora and Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. But the SRT team has spent a great deal of time refining the race car to make sure it is a worthy successor to the previous Viper. The supercar has been involved in motorsport since day one, and it’s only natural that the racing version comes out sooner than the production model.

“We’re thrilled to return to the world-class competition in the American Le Mans Series with our flagship American supercar,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. “The new SRT Viper GTS-R represents a rebirth for us on the race track. It epitomizes the best of what our new SRT performance brand represents and showcases the Viper’s natural affinity for road courses. Now the time has finally come to go head-to-head with the best sports car teams from around the world.”
