This year’s April Fools Day has coincided with the New York Auto Show, which makes things more confusing than ever. This is what Mercedes-Benz has come up with as their funny joke. Mercedes Sprinter 63 AMG is a tarted-up Sprinter van with a V8. And boy is it awesome!

Now, these jokes are supposed to be silly and good only for a chuckle. But what Mercedes is proposing here is a hotrod van with a cool body kit and a big engine. What’s not to like. They have accidentally proposed something that many petrolheads would cherish as the world’s first proper sports van.

Mercedes Sprinter 63 AMG has the 4.0 liter V8 engine from the latest series of AMG cars, developing 500 horsepower and nearly 700 Nm of torque. It boasts an S63-esque body kit consisting of front spoiler lip and air intakes, rear diffuser, and quad tailpipes, as well as AMG wheels.

Even though there is virtually no existing market for this Mercedes Sprinter 63 AMG, they should build at least a few of them as show cars. Who knows, in the same way that the G63 6×6 caught on, some fun-loving millionaires might be prepared to pay big bucks for a fast van!
