Volkswagen Eos was the firm’s answer to the Mercedes SLK, in the same way that the CC was their rival for the mighty CLS. They were both fairly successful, but nobody really took them that seriously. That could changes in the future is they base the next Eos is anything like this VW Sport GTE Cabriolet you see here.
This is, of course, just a speculative rendering by a visionary designer who thinks the GTE Sport concept has more potential than what meets the eye. He has chopped the roof of the coupe and turned it into a sleek, mid-size four-seater convertible – exactly what the Eos is supposed to be.
As good as this VW Sport GTE Cabriolet looks, and despite the fact that the whole idea makes a lot of sense, this thing has very slim chances of production. That is because VW has no immediate plans revive the Eos for a new generation. What’s more, the proposed design here features a cloth soft top, and Eos’ party piece has always been its folding hardtop.
At any rate, VW Sport GTE Cabriolet would make a great addition to the GTE range, a design that will invariably affect future production VW models. We just have to wait and see what VW has in mind.
