The debut of the new Fiat 124 Spider with its retro-inspired design has given the creativity of certain designers a kick in the butt and caused them to think way far outside the box. X-Tomi has just come up with this rendering of a modern-day Datsun 240Z based on the 124, and it looks pretty awesome.

Datsun 240Z is a cult car with a huge following all over the world, especially Japan and the United States. Now that Nissan is reviving the Datsun brand, it is not completely out of the question the idea of a new 240Z sports coupe to go head to head with the likes of Mazda MX-5, Toyota GT86, and of course, Fiat 124 Spider.

That said, we don’t think Nissan would model their new Datsun 240Z on the Fiat 124. They might draw inspiration from its size and propositions, but looks will certainly be different. Still, no one can deny the similarities between the 124 and the 240Z – the original models – as pointed out by X-Tomi Design rather beautifully in this rendering.

At any rate, we would like the idea of a pure and simple Nissan sports car, boasting compact size, a peppy engine, lightweight body, and above all, an affordable price tag.
