Well, it came out of nowhere, but turns out the new Kia Niro Hybrid crossover is one of the world’s most fuel efficient cars right now. It was verified by the Guinness World Record people who covered the 3715.4 miles distance from Los Angeles to New York City in the Niro using only 4.1 tanks of gas, averaging 76.6 mpg.

Usually hybrid versions of the normal cars struggle to beat the regular-engined model’s consumption by 10 or 12 mpg. But Kia Niro Hybrid apparently doesn’t mess around, taking its role as the savior of fuel and the environment really seriously. And the amazing thing is this record is leaps and bound better than what the EPA said the Niro should be able to achieve, which is 52 mpg highway/49 mpg city/50 mpg combined for the FE, 51/46/49 mpg for the LX, and 46/40/43 mpg for the Touring model. Maybe Donald Trump is in the right wanting to abolish this Agency. Evidently, they know nothing.

Kia Niro Hybrid features a Kappa 1.6-liter GDI four-cylinder engine with 103 horsepower, featuring cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), GDI and a long-stroke-narrow-bore specification, coupled with 43-hp tractive motor, known as the transmission-mounted electric device (TMED), delivering a total of 146 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. That power is transmitted through a newly developed, second-generation six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The system is backed up by a compact and lightweight 1.56-kWh Lithium Ion Polymer battery located underneath the rear seat.
