2009 BMW 735d gets new diesel engine

With every new BMW 7-series there is inevitably an entry level diesel powered model . For the new 7er this diesel version is called 735d and it’ll get an updated version of BMW’s famous 3.0 liter diesel. This engine is so good that potentially can harm sales of petrol powered models!

The new engine is the same size as the old one and it’s still an in-line six cylinder, but its twin turbochargers have new geometry so they are much more capable and efficient. this engine develops 306 hp and 600 nm of torque at only 1500 rpm.

Now torque is very hard to explain, but we can tell you 600 of it is really very much! And to have this much torque at 1500rpm means the acceleration would be really fast. Of course the 7-series bimmers are pretty heavy and that can affect performance, but BMW will put this engine in the 3 and 5-series as well.

And despite the greater power and torque than the previous engine, the new one is surprisingly 4 percent better in terms of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. BMW engineering is really brilliant, we just hope their design department would be half as good!!
