a few weeks ago a mysterious BMW M3 test mule had been caught by spy photographers which was sporting racing stuff like a big rear wing. Some people said that is the new M3 CSL, but as it turned out, it’s the new M3 GTS! Although it’s named differently, but it’s built using the same old CSL recipe. It is lighter than the ordinary M3 (around 200kg) and it has more power (about 40hp). Priced at €115,000, the GTS is considerably more expensive than the M3, but you’ll get quit more for your money.
To be used in the GTS, the M3’s V8 has undergone a surgery at the M-power center and is now offering 4.4 liter displacement and 450 hp. It is coupled to an updated version of BMW’s 7-speed gearbox.
The car features new carbon fiber spoilers and wings and is fitted with exclusive 19-inch wheels with 225/35 tyres at the front and 285/30 at the rear. It also has a threaded suspension, adjustable in compression and rebound and a performance braking package with six pistons at the front and four at the rear.
Apart form the carbon roof and body components, the GTS also has carbon fiber bucket seats while most of the luxury goods like air conditioning, navigation and radio and the entire rear seat have been removed for the sake of lighter weight. After all it’s meant to be a track-oriented car and you won’t need any of that on the track!
Check out the BMW M3 GTS video Below. It won’t be mass produced, they will only make it on order.
The first vehicles are due to be supplied in May 2010. For technical reasons relating to registration, the first vehicles to be produced will be those for individual registration in Germany. According to current planning, registrations in other countries will be possible from summer 2010.
