So the new model Cadillac has been teasing us about a couple of weeks before the Detroit Motor Show, is this XTS Platinum concept. The XTS is a flagship luxury saloon which is powered by a hybrid powertrain. This is Cadillac’s try to take on Mercedes S400 Hybrid, although the production version of this car won’t come out until 2012.
The XTS features a kind of design that makes it instantly recognizable as a Caddy following the same “Art and Science” design language, and that’s cool! That means it has a character and is not trying to be something it isn’t, like those Korean cars. But this car’s interior is just marvelous. It is a blend of very fine leather and beautiful wood trims just like the old luxurious Cadillacs, and modern features which makes it desirable and easier to live with. It has four monitors inside, one of them acting as the instrument panel and all of the equipments you expect from a car of this level.
“The XTS Platinum concept is the next expression of Cadillac’s Art and Science execution philosophy, reflecting our drive to deliver the latest innovations in the most artful manner,” said Bryan Nesbitt, Cadillac general manager. “We envisioned this concept as an automotive personal headquarters, using advanced technology to enable new levels of connectivity and luxury.”
XTS Concept’s powertrain includes a Direct Injection V-6 engine and the PHEV system featuring fully electric variable drive. This sophisticated system develops a combined power of 350 horsepower (260 kW) and 295 lb.-ft. of torque (400 Nm). It also has an external plug-in recharging system for the batteries.
The car is also engineered carefully for the sake of a refined driving expirence providing both comfort and good handling. Therefore it is equipped with Magnetic Ride Control (MRC), all-wheel-drive system, four-wheel disc brakes, with four-channel ABS, StabiliTrak stability control and full-function traction control.
“The XTS Platinum Concept was designed to deliver an engaging driving experience without compromising the functional features, space and comfort customers seek in a luxury car,” said Nesbitt. “It is a new vision of luxury that uses advanced technology to deliver functionality efficiently and rewardingly.”
