According to an unconfirmed report Mercedes is developing a smaller cheaper variant of its SLS AMG supercar which will target Porsche 911. It will be based on a shorter version of the SLS’ platform and, among many things, won’t come with those amazing Gullwing doors . Allegedly called the SSK AMG, it slots between the SLK and SLS and will come in both hard and soft top models.
The SSK might not get the same 6.3 liter V8 as the SLS, mainly because Mercedes will soon drop it in favor of a twin-turbo V8, but it certainly will be powerful enough to rival 911. So you can expect same sort of performance, 0 to 100 km/h in around 4.5 seconds and top speed of as near as makes no difference 300 km/h.
Apparently the baby SLS is due in 2014, and pricewise it would cost half as much as the current SLS.
