Volvo is now offering an extremely clean diesel engine for two of its most important vehicles S80 and V70, to show they confidence in this unit! It’s a 1.6 liter turbocharged diesel from the DRIVe series with 109bhp and 240Nm of torque, which averages 62.8mpg and that means it can cover nearly 1100 miles on one tank and best of all, it emits just 119g of CO2 per Kilometer.
This being an eco-minded car does not mean there’s any compromise on comfort and convenience. Volvo offers this engine with all SE, SE Premium, SE Lux and SE Lux Premium trim levels.
Volvo has employed two main techniques to reduce CO2 emissions further on both cars.Intelligent battery recharging ensures that the car’s control system only allows the alternator to charge the battery when the engine is operating at low load, for instance when driving downhill. In addition the belt that drives the alternator and air conditioning compressor benefits from reduced friction helping lower fuel consumption and emissions.
Meanwhile these models are only offered in the UK where it will really shine because the amount of tax you have to pay is in direct proportion to the mount of CO2 gas you emit! Owners of these Volvos will only pay£35 per year.
