As you know Americans are not very fond of diesel-powered cars, but Mercedes has something in store that might change their minds. It’s the new US-spec S-class S350 CDI BueTec luxury saloon powered by a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 engine developing 241 hp and 429 lb-ft (580Nm) of torque. The European version of this car has 235 hp.
The S-class diesel which is apparently the only diesel variant of the car for North American market features AdBlue urea injection technology and comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and optional 4Matic system. It does 0-60 mph in 7.8 seconds and reaches a limited top speed of 155 mph, but the real advantage of this model over petrol ones is the fuel economy, as it averages 25 mpg.
The car is going to be pricey though, so let’s wait and see how Americans embrace this eco-minded Merc!
