AMG Going Hybrid

V8 BiTurbo at AMG Going Hybrid

Latest reports form Stuttgart and Affalterbach confirm that AMG is hard at work developing new type of high performance hybrid engines. It’s not something they naturally want to do of course, as they’re only obsessed with horsepower! But they have to do it to lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

AMG’s hybrid program was a very cool one when it was first started. They were going to use hybrid technology like batteries, ultracapacitors and flywheels to actually boost the output of their powertrains even further. But it’s now turned towards lower fuel consumption, and for that they’re considering stop-start and recuperation technology. Mercedes is also working on fuel cell and Chevy Volt-style range extender systems.

Now this being AMG, you may rest assured they won’t let the green efforts cause any damage to the performance of their cars, not even a little!
