For those of you who don’t know, SsangYong is a Korean manufacturer that used to make hideous things like Musso or Kyron or Korando, but recently they’ve been making some good looking cars as well such as the Rexton. Here’s the first images of their new STU 1 concept set for debut at 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

The SUT 1 is a sporty pickup truck based on the Actyon. This concept presents a more contemporary look to reflect the styling expected of today’s Sports Utility Truck and appears to be modeled on the Caddy Escalade pickup or Chevrolet Avalanche which is basically the same.

SsangYong STU 1 is similar in size to the current Actyon Sports – 4,985mm long x 1,910mm wide x 1,755mm high, and with a generous 3,060mm wheelbase. Its engine however is not on the par with its awesome looks. It’s got a 2.0 liter 155 PS diesel unit which has 360 Nm of torque from 1,500-2,800rpm, complying with Euro 5 standards. The new model will offer the choice of either 6-speed manual or automatic transmission in either 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive models.  It will go on sale across Europe and other markets from early 2012.

It’s a good improvement for SsangYong over their usual dreary cars! And it proves it’s not that hard making good looking cars after all.
