As we said earlier, Audi has developed an obsession with sketches! They’ve used them again to announce the new GT version of the R8 Spyder, set for debut at the 2011 IAA.
Just like the R8 GT coupe, the Spyder will be a lighter, more powerful and more track-focused version of the normal car. It gets the same 552bhp, 398lb ft 5.2-litre V10 engine which makes it faster the standard R8 Spyder because it’s 95 kg lighter, but 6 mph slower than the Coupe GT. The drivetrain will also be the same consisting of a 6-speed R-tronic gearbox and quattro system.
Performance aside, the R8 GT Spyder will be quite a looker, on the evidence of these official sketches. The car features the same sort of racing bits like front splitter, rear wing and diffuser as the Coupe, but on the Spyder they look superb.
Stay tuned for more details on the car, as it will be previewed at Le Mans 24-hour race in June.
