SLS Spawns SLC at New Details On Mercedes SLC

Sometime in 2014, Mercedes will launch its Porsche 911 rival in form of a baby SLS, called the SLC.

Those three words ‘Porsche 911 rival’ say a lot about the specifications of the car and what can you expect. Like Porsche 911 it’ll come as both coupe and convertible variants, but without the gullwing doors of the SLS. Great. Also like the 911, it’ll get different models with different level of power and equipments.

A base model with a V6 engine would cost just under 100,000 euro. The full-on AMG model though will have no less than 500 hp from a V8 engine. But it’s not likely for it to get a manual gearbox.

Size-wise, the SLC will be heavily inspired by the SLS, but it’ll be more compact, in the same size as the 911, with a short boot and a classically long bonnet. So in terms of power and probably styling, the SLC can worry the mighty 911.

But in terms of handling, we have to wait and see. The 911 is a well-balanced sportscar that is proud of its poise and precision. What’s more, Porsche has been making the 911 for a thousand years now and has tons of racing pedigree behind it.

Mercedes AMG cars on the other hand have always been a bit crazy, and that makes them more fun. They tend to take the corner in the most amusing way, not necessarily the fastest. The SLC might not be just as fast as the 911 when it finally arrives, but it sure will be more fun to drive.
