A few hours after revealing the Golf R Cabrio, Volkswagen released first pictures of the Golf GTI Cabrio, making its debut at the 2011 Worthersee GTI meet.
While details of the car are yet to be announced, it takes no genius to realize the GTI Cabrio is a cheaper, less powerful version of the R. In many ways, we prefer the GTI Cabrio to the R Cabrio. For starters, it looks better than that blue-blooded model (that said, it’s a concept model and things might change), and it’s not that much weaker to make a real differene. The R has 270 hp, the GTI – if it remains loyal to the specs of the hatchback version – 210 hp (235 hp for Edition 35 models).
If anything, the GTI Cabrio is closer to a proper sportscar than the heavier, four-wheel-drive R. It will be more affordable and at the end of the day more fun!
We will be adding official details of VW Golf GTI Cabriolet here as soon as we got them.
