Audi has already started challenging BMW in DTM, as they release renderings of their new DTM machine the same day BMW revealed the M3 race car.

Based on the new A5, this race car will replace the current A4 DTM from 2012, when new Technical Regulations will come into effect in the series.Although the design and specs of the car are yet to be finalized, but some facts are certain about Audi’s new DTM car, one is the unique body all DTM cars features, and the otehr, high-strength carbon-fiber monocoque.

Based on the new regulations vehicles have to meet strict safety measures in order to be qualified, so the fovus was mainly on that in development of the new car rather than speed and cornering.

Audi A5 DTM will get a V8 with about 460 hp (340 kW) mated to the same six-speed sequential as in the A4. So it’s 20 hp weaker than the new M3, but it very well might be faster. After all, Audi has years and years of experience in modern DTM, whereas BMW has been an absentee for many years.
