Nissan VP Andy Palmer confirmed what everybody knew from the first time they saw the Infiniti FX Vettel Edition as a concept. It’s going into production.
They probably wanted to wait for Sebastian to snatch the world title in this season of Formula 1, then take advantage of it and announce production of the car.
That’s fair enough. After all, Infiniti spent millions of dollars sponsoring Red Bull and Vettel, and has to make up for it somehow. The FX Vettel Edition is a perfect tool for the job, as it combines the attractions of the amazing FX with higher performance, cooler looks and more equipments.
You just have to wait and see if the price premium over the normal FX is actually worth it.
Palmer believes the partnership with Vettel will help the company’s high performance arm IPL to become as good as AMG or M Division for Mercedes and BMW.
“This is one of the first versions that will go to market. Not as an IPL—it’ll obviously go as the Sebastian Vettel special version, but it demonstrates we’re able to do these low volume, very special versions and be able to charge a premium for that kind of work. Again, hopefully, with Sebastian now the world champion, the demand for his special version is going to be that much higher.” Said Palmer.
