With the first details of the new generation Mercedes SL now available we thought you might want to have an early look at the car as well.

These renderings based on the latest spyshots are pretty much the real thing. Yes, it looks too much like the SLK, and that’s because they’re both inspired by the SLS.

Apart from the fact that it’ll be quite hard distinguishing the SL from the SLK, we are not sure it is a very pretty car. The current SL and the one before that with round headlamps look powerful and imposing and elegant. This doesn’t!

The rear-end is more dramatic, but again it’s heavily affected by the SLK. It’s not a bad design. Far from it. But if it looks this much like a cheaper, smaller car, what’s the point of having the SL in the first place.

We have to point out though, the current SLK is much better looking in person than in pictures. So the images don’t tell the whole story.

Still, let’s wait for the official pictures to be revealed and than nag.
