Rumors are brewing up about a new high-performance BMW 5-Series diesel with 380 hp and over 516 lb-ft of torque.
BMW already has a very fine diesel-powered 5-series, the 535d M sport in its lineup. This a car with 50 mpg fuel economy, 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 5 seconds, top speed of 250 km/h, it handles brilliantly and it has the practicality and good looks of a F10 5er. It is to all intents and purposes the very perfect car for every occasion.
With this new super diesel though, allegedly called the M550d, BMW wants to set the bar even higher. It will get the same inline 6-cylinder diesel but with three turbochargers. So you get 380hp and a very enormous sum of torque which results in awesome acceleration, while the fuel consumption remains low enough for you to cover a 1000 km on one tank.
We know diesel is not cool and all that. But you have to say, this car with this specs makes an awful lot of sense.
